Facilitating dialogue is one thing, but the Mizzou ADVANCE Interactive Theatre Troupe goes beyond just words. Using audience participation, the troupe engages STEM faculty in exploring issues of gender equity among their departments.

The Mizzou ADVANCE Interactive Theatre Troupe, which is modeled after a program at the University of Michigan, consists of actors from the MU Theatre Department as well as faculty, staff, community, and professional actors.

The troupe debuted its first play, “A Knock at the Door,” in spring 2008. The play explores the gender dynamics of a fictitious faculty search committee in a science field, as well as the many issues that can come up as faculty interact as a group. The troupe will be debuting a new play in spring 2009.

A typical performance lasts between 20-30 minutes, and is often followed by a group discussion, during which the audience can ask the characters questions.

The Mizzou ADVANCE Interactive Theatre Troupe, led by Curators' Teaching Professor of Theatre Suzanne Burgoyne, performs during various Mizzou ADVANCE functions. Visit the calendar page for information on the next performance.
