While the status of female faculty in MU's STEM departments is often consistent with national data, it is clear that there is room for improvement at MU.

As of October 2004:

  • Women represent 15% of all tenured and tenure-track faculty in STEM departments (49 of 332).
  • 14 of 332 full professors in STEM departments are women.
  • 10 of the 21 departments have a female faculty member with the rank of full professor.
  • One of 21 departments has a female chair.
  • Two of the 11 dean positions in STEM colleges are filled by women.
  • Promotion and tenure (P&T) committees in STEM colleges have few, if any, female members.
  • Two of the seven campus P&T members are women.
  • Between 1998-2001,19% (4/21) of new junior STEM faculty hires were women.
  • Between 2002-2004, 16% (9/55) new junior STEM faculty hires were women.
