Mizzou ADVANCE will use several methods of collecting data from MU STEM faculty.
Qualitative Research
Interviews and focus groups are being conducted with faculty to determine perceptions of climate, institutional support, and barriers.
The interviews are taking place with a sample of senior women and men STEM faculty in 2007 and 2009 and seek to answer the following overall questions:
- Are supports and mentoring available and useful?
- Are policies and practices fair and unbiased?
- Is there a friendly working environment?
- Has there been a change in perceptions among faculty and administrators? (2009 only)
In 2008, focus groups will be conducted with a sample junior women and men STEM faculty.

Quantitative Research
A web-based survey is being distributed to STEM faculty to assess their attitudes toward the climate as well as their activities. More information on the survey will be available soon.
