ADVANCE: Increasing the Participation and Advancement of Women in Academic Science and Engineering Careers

“The goal of the ADVANCE program is to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce.”

There are several different grants under the ADVANCE umbrella. MU was awarded a $500,000 PAID grant. Below is the NSF description of a PAID grant:

“Partnerships for Adaptation, Implementation, and Dissemination Awards support the analysis, adaptation, dissemination and use of existing innovative materials and practices that have been demonstrated to be effective in increasing representation and participation of women in academic science and engineering careers.”

The Mizzou ADVANCE grant is modeled after successful initiatives at the University of Michigan and New Mexico State University.

NSF ADVANCE is addressing gender equity issues that are revealed in national data. Other top schools have received ADVANCE grants.
