The Mizzou ADVANCE mentoring program matches senior (i.e., associate and full) STEM faculty with other faculty and administrators for career guidance and professional development. The aim is to help both mentors and mentees by fostering one-to-one connections, improving social networks, encouraging research collaboration, and sharing "best practices" across departments.

Mentoring pairs may consist of individuals from different but related departments. Similarly, pairs may consist of individuals at different levels. For example, an associate professor in chemistry might be paired with a full professor in physics.

We recognize, though, that a single mentor is unlikely to meet all the mentee's needs. That is why Mizzou ADVANCE hosts events throughout the year where participants can network with others in the mentoring program. Events will include brown-bag lunch seminars and professional development workshops on topics such as leadership, negotiation, communication, and grant writing.

Both women and men can get involved in the mentoring program by serving as mentors or choosing to receive mentoring. While the aim of Mizzou ADVANCE is to help women's advancement, we know that mentoring will improve the working environment for all faculty.

We anticipate that over 50 faculty members will receive mentoring through this program. The program is modeled after a program at New Mexico State University.

For more information about the mentoring program, please review the brochure and other documents on our website. In addition, you may contact the Mizzou ADVANCE Mentoring Sub-Committee: Sheryl Tucker or Marge Skubic.
